A Company Secretary is a senior managerial position which exists in private as well as public organizations. The principal role of a Company Secretary is to ensure that the administration of a company is efficiently conducted, in accordance with the rules and regulations of the state or states where the company and its offices are located. Also, the decisions taken by the Board of Directors of a company are implemented effectively under the guidance of a Company Secretary.
 
A Company Secretary has nothing to do with regular secretarial work. A Company Secretary is a professional whose role in a corporate set up is that of an advisor for legal matters. The Institute of Company Secretaries of India is constituted under the Company Secretaries Act, 1980, to develop and regulate the profession of Company Secretaries in India. 
 
There are 3 modules in CS, as followed:-
 - Foundation Programme
 - Executive Programme
 - Professional Programme
 

CS Foundation Programme
 
Foundation programme has been introduced for Senior Secondary (10+2 or its equivalent) pass students. The programme offers an opportunity to the students passing the Senior Secondary or its equivalent examination in any stream. 
 
First candidate has to register with the Institute of Company Secretaries of India.  Duration of the Course is 8 months. CS exams are conducted twice a year in June & December. Admission is open throughout the year and is valid for three years. Students are provided with study material at the time of admission.
 
Eligibility
 - Candidates who have passed Senior Secondary Examination (10+2) or equivalent recognized examination are eligible to take admission in the course. 
 - There are no restrictions with regard to age of the candidate or marks secured in Senior Secondary Examination.
  CS Foundation Programme

Postal Tuition Fee:- Rs. 2400/-

30th September for appearing in June examination of the next year.

Examination
There are total 4 papers. Each paper will be of three hours duration and will carry 100 marks. For passing the exam student need to secure 40% marks in individual Subjects and 50% in aggregate.
 
Paper 1: Business Environment and Entrepreneurship (100 marks)
     Part A- Business Environment (30 marks)
     Part B- Business Laws (40 marks)
     Part C- Entrepreneurship (30 marks)
 
Paper 2: Business Management, Ethics and Communication (100 marks)
     Part A- Business Management (40 marks)
     Part B- Business Ethics (20 marks)
     Part C- Business Communication (40 marks)
 
Paper 3: Business Economics (100 marks)
     Part A- Economics (70 marks)
     Part B- Elementary Statistics (30 marks)
 
Paper 4: Fundamentals of Accounting and Auditing (100 Marks)
     Part A- Fundamentals of accounting (70 marks)
     Part B- Fundamentals of Auditing (30 marks).
 
After passing Foundation Programme
 - CS Executive Programme
 - CS Professional Programme
